Abstract

1381340 PVC fibres BAYER AG 22 Nov 1972 [26 Nov 1971] 54013/72 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Fibres are formed from a vinyl chloride polymer having a vinyl chloride content above 85%, a viscosity number of 2À0-2À9 and a syndiotacticity index of 2À1-2À5 (see Division C3). The fibres are spun from gel-free solutions in cyclohexanone containing 15-20% of polymer by a wet or dry spinning process. In the wet process the solution at 130-150‹ C. is spun into a bath consisting of water and cyclohexanone optionally with a solubilizing agent, e.g. isopropanol, or water and a glycol or glycol ether. The threads are washed, stretched in two stages, heat fixed under tension and shrunk in water. In the dry process the solutions at 100-120‹ C. are spun into a shaft heated with air at 150-220‹ C. and further treated as above.
