Abstract

1381121 Coated bleach components UNILEVER Ltd 14 Feb 1972 [12 Feb 1971] 4557/71 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions Cl and D1] A solid bleach activator or peroxy compound is coated with a compatible protective material capable of protecting the activator and peroxy compound from interaction in a detergent composition and releasing the activator or peroxy compound in a wash solution by forming a liquid charge containing the molten protective material and the activator or peroxy compound and spray cooling the liquid charge. Examples of solid bleach activators are phthalic anhydride, pyromellitic anhydride, benzoic anhydride, succinic anhydride, tetraacetyl ethylene diamine, triacetyl cyanurate. Examples of peroxy compounds are sodium perborate, persulphate and percarbonate. Preferably the liquid charge also contains a viscosity modifier which may be a solvent for the coating material. Examples of coating materials are microcrystalline wax, solid polyethylene glycols, coconut monoethanolamide, long chain fatty acids, ethoxylated alcohols.
