Abstract

1381044 Stereoscopy PHILIPS ELEC- TRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Jan 1972 [29 Jan 1971] 3622/72 Heading G2J A point source, such as an X-ray tube, is moved in a circular path 11, Fig.1, and at a number of positions such as 12, 13, radiographs 14 are made of an object 10. A point light source 1, Fig. 2, is then focused by lens 2 to a point 4 and a corresponding radiograph 14 interposed. The source 1 is moved to another position on the circle 3 and a corresponding radiograph 14 interposed. If the source 1 is stroboscopic and radiographs 14 are on a disc rotated at a corresponding speed to the movement of source 1 a three dimensional image can be observed and any plane 30 thereof may be photographed to produce an image 10' of a desired sectional plane. Alternatively the source 1 may be used with one radiograph 14 to produce a partially exposed photograph at 30, the source 1 being subsequently moved to a different position along the circle 3, the corresponding radiograph 14 substituted and the photograph at 30 re-exposed and so on for as many positions of source 1 as there were originally radiographs 14 produced by the X-ray tube moving around circle 11. Alternatively, the series of radiographs 14 may be produced on a single transparency at spaced positions and a series of point sources corresponding to the various positions of source 1 on circle 3 simultaneously illuminated with the light from each source passing through the appropriate transparency. To prevent stray light interference a diaphragm may be placed at position 11' having apertures corresponding to the positions 4 and a lens used to re-image the three-dimensional field beyond the diaphragm. Instead of using an X-ray tube the original images may be formed using particle radiation, optical radiation or by calculation using a computer.
