Abstract

1380980 Bookbinding TAIYO SEIKI CO Ltd 13 Dec 1972 [20 Dec 1971] 57519/72 Heading B6A A bookbinding machine includes clamping means 21, 22 movable along a path adjacent which is disposed a container 4 for adhesive material, a rotatable drum 42, preferably rotatable in a direction opposite to that of the oncoming clamping means, being provided in the container for applying adhesive to the edge to be bound of a pile of sheets 1 held in said clamping means and means being provided for temporarily displacing the drum so that the forward end of said pile does not contact said adhesive. The clamping means are reciprocable along guide rails 3 by a clutch and a motor which also drives the drum 42. The container may be pivotably mounted a cam 33 on the clamping means temporarily depressing the container 4 and the drum 42 as the forward end of the pile of sheets passes the drum. Alternatively, the container may be fixed and the drum depressed relative thereto. An adjustable scraper knife 43 may be provided adjacent the drum and an electric heater located in the container for liquidizing hot melt adhesive.
