Abstract
1380418 Air cathodes for electrolyzing chloride solutions ELECTRIC POWER STORAGE Ltd and C POWNALL 17 April 1972 [27 Jan 1971] 3292/71 Heading C7B An aqueous solution containing a chloride, e.g. NaCl or KCl, is electrolyzed, e.g. to produce (per) chlorate or chlorine, in a cell containing an anode, e.g. of a graphite or a Ti support coated with Pt group metal(s) or oxides of Pt group metal(s) and non-noble metal(s), and an air cathode comprising a mixture of activated carbon and a metal (e.g. Ni) powder e.g. between 10% and 60% w/w. The cell may contain a porous diaphragm, e.g. asbestos paper and/or cloth, on a rigid foraminate sheet support, e.g. expanded Ti sheet, spaced and electrically insulated from the cathode, e.g. by a polypropylene frame.
