Abstract

1380042 Anti-theft devices F W KING 27 June 1972 [31 March 1971] 55946/70 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] A vehicle anti-theft device comprises a steel plate 1 hinged at 2 to a thicker steel plate 3 securable to the floor 4 of a vehicle by bolts 5 engaging in a backing plate 6 under the floor, the plate 1 in use being pivoted about a horizontal axis from its normal horizontal position so as to cover the foot control pedals 7 of the vehicle and prevent their operation, the plate 1 being secured in the covering position by a pivoted latch 13 operable by a cylinder lock 18 carried by the plate 3. The lock 18 is mounted in a plate 11 secured by screws 12 in a tubular housing 10 welded to the plate 3. A cylindrical projection 19 on the lock 18 engages a recess 20 in the latch which is urged by a spring 21 to the inoperative position A, Fig. 4. The latch passes through a slot 13a in the housing 10 and co-operates with a switch 24 so as to immobilize the ignition and a device to prevent the driver's door being closed until the latch 13 is in locking position.
