1379823 Containers GOODYEAR AEROSPACE CORP 27 Sept 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 44686/72 Heading B8P [Also in Divisions E1-E2] A door assembly for a container comprises a door 18, Fig. 1, which, when mounted in position for use, has upper and lower sections 22, 20 connected by a horizontal hinge 24, rollers 108, Fig. 13, mounted by studs 106 on brackets 26 at the upper corners of the upper door section 22, guide tracks 28 for mounting along the upper ends of the end panels 14 of a container 10, which tracks 28 receive the rollers 108, anchoring pins 30, Fig. 14, at the lower end of the door for engaging recesses 32 in the container base 12 when the door is closed, and a latching mechanism 34, Fig. 3, for holding the door 18 securely in a closed position. On opening the door the upper and lower sections 22, 20 are first moved to the positions shown in Fig. 14, the pins 30 having disengaged the recesses 32 in the base 12 and the brackets 26 having been moved pivotally about the studs 106. The sections 22, 20 of the door are then moved to the positions shown in Fig. 15 where the rollers abut a stop 24 and the sections are retained in position by a strap 138, the latter being mounted on corrugated sheet 70, Fig. 16, by a rod 140 and being provided with a hook 142 which engages a lip portion 120, Fig. 12, of the track 28 to retain the door in the open position and engages a rod 144, Fig. 16, when the strap 138 is not in use. The rollers 108, Fig. 13, are each provided with a bearing bush 114, are radiused at 110 and 112, have a loose fitting relationship with each channel 116 of the tracks 28, and are retained by the lip portions 120. On closing the door the pins 30 re-engage the recesses 32 in the base 12 and the door is held in the closed position by the latching mechanism 34, Figs. 3 and 9. The latter comprises a stud 127, Fig. 9, having a frusto-conical head portion 129 and a collar which together form an annular groove 132, and a slidable latch plate 134 having a notch 136 at one end thereof for engagement with the annular groove 132 of the stud 127. The stud may be attached to an end panel rail 100, and the latch plate 134, having a housing 123, may be mounted at an end 125 of the beam 60, Figs. 3 and 9. The container 10 may be provided with shelves 36, Fig. 3, which may be removably secured within the container and, having the end panels removably connected to the base 12 and to the top panel 16, can be readily dismantled. Handles 38, Fig. 1, for moving the container are carried by the end panels 14 and handles 40A, Fig. 3, are provided on the door panels 18.
