Abstract
1379756 Inks LAMSON INDUSTRIES Ltd 31 Aug 1972 [10 Aug 1971] 37481/71 Heading C4A [Also in Division D2] A coating composition for use in the manufacture of clean-to-handle carbon paper comprises (a) a colour former having a specified general formula, (b) a cationic surface active agent which is a quaternary ammonium salt and (c) a binder for the colour former. Many possible substituent groups which the colour former can comprise are listed but the only colour formers exemplified are the Group IA and optionally substituted ammonium salts of N-(4-sulphophenyl)-leucouramine (I) Various quaternary ammonium cations which can be used in the form of chloride, bromide or methosulphate salts as the surfactants are listed; lauryl benzyl dimethylammonium chloride and dodecyl benzyl dimethylammonium chloride are exemplified. Toluene can be included as an organic solvent. Compositions set out in the examples contain titanium dioxide, silica and mica as pigments or fillers, castor oil or mineral oil, carnauba wax, ethyl cellulose, polyamide resin, and methylated spirit.
