Abstract

1379456 Circlips; retaining parts on shafts M FISCHER 29 Feb 1972 [1 March 1971] 9194/72 Headings F2H and F2U A sheet metal or plastics spring clip for resiliently restraining axial play of a member M on a bearing shaft B includes an arm 2 locatable in a recess in the shaft, a spring bow or curved portion 3, and an arm 4 encirling the shaft and having a pair of ears 5 extending from arm 4 beyond arm 2 to bear against the member M at an acute angle. Each ear 5 has a rounded corner to abut the member M with the result that as axial play of the member M increases the compensating spring force provided by the portion 3 increases more than proportionately since the effective lever arm of the spring clip is shattered. The arm 2 is preferably U-shaped, the two legs of the U engaging in a circumferential groove 1 in the shaft. The arm 4 may include means engaging the legs of the arm 2 to limit relative movement therewith and thus to ensure that the clip is not accidently disengaged from the shaft. The spring characteristics of the clip can be altered by providing a cut out (10) in the portion 3 as in Fig. 4 (not shown).
