Abstract

1379443 Lamps T A NYKANEN 11 Jan 1972 [12 Jan 1971] 1250/72 Heading F4R A lamp comprises an at least partially translucent outer shade 5, a first light source 1 arranged to illuminate the interior of the outer shade, a pair of relatively movable inner shades 3, 4 adapted to alter the colour and/or the pattern of the illumination of the outer shade, and one or more second light sources 2 located within the outer shade and arranged to provide direct illumination. The shade 4 consists of two tubular portions so spaced apart that the light emitted by the source 1 extends over an arc 6 exactly corresponding to the height of the shade 5, whilst the shade 3 is also tubular and can be moved axially within the shade 4 to vary the colour and/or the pattern of the light projected on to the interior surface of the shade 5. The second light source 2, of which two are provided, is shielded from the shade 5 by a shade 8 and emits direct light through the light transmissive end closure elements 10, 10b of the shade 5. In a modification adapted for use with outer shades 5 of different diameters and/or heights the shade 8 is composed of two adjustable overlapping portions (8b, 8c) to enable the angle of the arc 7 to be varied and two axially adjustable tubular shades (4c, 4d) are provided outside the shade 4 to vary the angle of the arc 6.
