Abstract

1378700 Braking systems WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKONBUHRLE AG 24 July 1972 [17 Aug 1971] 34456/72 Heading F2F A load-controlled compressed air braking system for rail vehicles comprises an input unit 21 for the generation of a load-controlled pressure, an auxiliary air reservoir 3 and a control valve 32 interposed between the reservoir 3 and a brake cylinder 38. A pressure limiting relay valve 22 is in turn interposed between the reservoir 3 and the control valve and is acted on by the load controlled pressure so as to limit the pressure available at the control valve in accordance with the load controlled pressure. In the construction shown the input unit comprises a pair of valves 7, 8; 12, 14, actuable by a cam 18, the orientation of which is determined, through a lever system 19, by the loading of the vehicle. The arrangement is such that as the loading increases the pressure in the input unit 21 increases and vice versa so that a suspension bellows 11 in the input unit 21 maintains the chassis of the vehicle at a predetermined height. The control valve 32 is operated by a signal provided by a driver's valve 43. In modifications (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) a spring biasing is provided on the relay valve so as to operate the valve automatically should the input unit 21 fail.
