Abstract
1378436 Bituminous laminates BPB INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 March 1973 [23 March 1972] 13754/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] A bituminous composite material for use in road-laying comprises a layer of a homogeneous mass of bitumen, chopped felt filler and polymeric additive faced on both sides with a bituminous material. The additive may be a cross-linked material and may be present in amount greater than 1%; specified materials are ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (e.g. containing 12À5% vinyl acetate), synthetic rubber or neoprene. The filler may be chopped scrap felt which may include mineral powder/ granular material, e.g. brown limestone, sand. The bitumen may be blown bitumen or mineral rubber bitumen. A preferred composition comprises 50% bitumen, 48% filler and 2% additive. The central layer may be faced with a bitumen-coated glass based felt on one side and a bitumen-saturated asbestos felt on the other. The composite may be used in the form of semirigid panels.
