Abstract
1378165 Charging blast furnaces J WIECZOREK 2 Dec 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 56013/71 Heading F4B Apparatus for charging a high pressure blast furnace comprises storage bins 12 and 13 controlled by upper flap valves 10 and 11 and lower flap valves 16 and 17, rotary feeders 14 and 15 controlling the rate of discharge and a rotary distributing shoot 19 extending from frustoconical hopper 18 mounted rotatably in the furnace throat, said shoot being inclined at an angle of 40-50 degrees to the vertical. The bins 12 and 13 are disposed between and supported by the waste gases offtakes 23 and three-way valves 24 and 25 enable the bins to be put under pressure from the off takes or vented to atmosphere. Operation of the shoot produces a crosssectional contour of the furnace charge which is M-shaped. In modifications (Figs. 9 and 10) which incorporate two and three distributing shoots, the respective contours produced are 2M and 3M shaped (Figs. 1-4). In all the constructions, each shoot is associated with two bins which may be formed by appropriately dividing a single cylindrical casing. The hopper 18 and shoot 19 may be water cooled. The wide variety of possible charging steps allowing for the many blast furnace parameters may be programmed by an industrial process computer.
