Abstract

1377619 Electron beam deflecting apparatus PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Nov 1971 [27 Nov 1970] 54586/71 Heading H1D A method of winding a saddle shaped deflection coil for a C.R.T. display tube (e.g. colour TV) comprises forming a flared coil as a continuous winding with at least two electrically series-arranged successively wound sections, including the steps of winding a number of turns to form a section 9 continuing winding a further number of turns to form a further section 11 with at least one space 25 between sections near to one end of the otherwise mutual longitudinal boundaries between the respective sections at 15<SP>1</SP> and if necessary repeating. Manufacture of a plurality of the coils may include periodic testing of a wound coil and if necessary compensating in the winding of subsequent coils by varying the number of turns in one or more sections. Measuring and readjusting may be automated. The spaces may be formed by winding round pins 21, which may be provided both sides the axis 23, or a further section may be wound round one pin 21, a second pin provided on the other side of axes 23 and a third section wound. The two pins may be symmetrically placed. At least one additional space (e.g. two) may be at the rear end. Window (7) (Figs. 1, 2, not shown) is provided and the coil thickness increases progressively from this window. The density of turns near the front end is smaller than the rear, and small local variations effect greater flux changes, variations in sections 9, 11, 13 producing a connection possibility.
