Abstract

1377215 N-aminohydrocarbyl phthalimides BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 5 Sept 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 44393/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] The invention comprises N-aminohydrocarbyl-phthalimide derivatives of Formula I: where Y is -(CH 2 CH 2 NH) n CH 2 CH 2 NH 2 , -(CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 NH) n H 2 CH 2 CH 2 NH 2 or -(CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 NH) n R<SP>1</SP>, n is 1 to 10, and R<SP>1</SP> is a C 5 to C 25 alkyl group. They may be prepared by reacting phthalic anhydride or phthalic acid with a polyamine of formula YNH 2 . The compounds of Formula I are used in lubricating oil compositions.
