1376759 Rolling mills FRIEDRICH KOCKS 30 March 1972 [2 April 1971] 14967/72 Heading B3M A stand-changing assembly for a multi-stand rolling mill enables individual stands 2, or groups of stands, to be removed from the rolling line by the use of cantilever arms 18 which extend above the stands. In one form, Fig. 1, each stand is supported by a lower support 26 and upper bearing surfaces 28, the surfaces being disposed in a carriage 22 which can be moved along the cantilever arm. To remove the stand from the rolling line, the stand is shifted to the left (dotted lines), to disconnect it from driving spindles 14. The carriage 22 then lifts the stand, moves it to the left, and deposits it on a trolley 20. The arm 18 can be pivoted to the dotted position when not in use. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 4, the lower support 26 is dispensed with and the stand is urged towards the right by a cylinder 58 into engagement with supports 34 and 36. The stand can then simply be moved to the left by the carriage 22, once the cylinder has released its clamping arm 56. The carriage 22 can be arranged to move laterally together with the cantilever arm 18, if desired (Fig. 3, not shown). The carriage 22, Fig. 4, houses a pair of pneumatically or hydraulically operated hooks 46 which engage pins on the stand. The stand is thus urged upwardly against support surfaces 28. The assembly of the hooks and stand can be raised or lowered by a cylinder 42.
