Abstract
1376542 Casting composite articles DAIMLER-BENZAG 29 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 14839/72 Heading B3F A method of manufacturing brake discs comprises locating a steel hub 4 on a rotatable table 1 so that a flange-like rim 18 of the hub projects into a mould, and introducing molten metal into the mould while the table 1 is rotating. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the mould consists of two annular sections 22 and 27 and is provided with a disc-shaped core 26 having radial incisions 28 in order to form a vented disc brake having radially orientated slots. Radial incisions 19 are provided in the rim 18 of the hub so as to form a series of teeth around its periphery. The hub is positioned with respect to the mould by a stud 5 which extends through an orifice 10 in the hub. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, the mould cavity is defined partly by the table 1 and partly by an annular mould part 33. The latter supports a member 45 having a part 32 which engages an opening in the hub 4 to centre the hub and hold it in position. A core 38 may be provided with an upturned portion 39 which acts as an additional centering means for the hub.
