Abstract

137,574. Fuller, J. W., and Fuller Engineering Co. Jan. 4, 1919. Slag, collecting and removing.- In a reversible regenerative liquid gaseous, or pulverulent fuel furnace for the manufacture of steel, the gases leaving the furnace pass through slag pockets into dustcollecting chambers and then pass upwards through the chequer work of regenerators, the lower parts of which are adapted to be readily renewed when burnt out. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, fuel is supplied through one of the nozzles 24, 24<1>, with hot air passing upwards through one of the slag pockets 3<x>, 4<x>. Waste gases leaving the furnace pass downwards through one of the slag pockets into one of a pair of dust-collecting chambers, such as 6', and thence up through the chequer work of one of a pair of regenerators, such as 8<1>. Upon reversal of the gases through the furnace, air enters through a valve such as 18<1> and passes downwards through the regenerator into the dust chamber and slag pocket to the furnace chamber 2. As shown in Fig. 2, the chequer brickwork of the regenerators is sumpported on upper arches 10 and lower arches 11, the brickwork on the lower arches being renewable through removable brickwork of the wall 15.
