Abstract

1375619 Stud and socket fastenings UNITED CARR Ltd 14 Dec 1972 57699/72 Heading E2B A plastics retainer comprises a substantially flat body portion 11 having a flat major face 12 at least the central portion of which is imperforate for adhering to a flat panel surface 25 and a bridge portion 14 extending from the opposite face 13 and forming a cavity between the body portion and the bridge portion for slidably receiving and retaining a head 28 of a stud 27. The bridge portion 14 comprises side walls 15, 16 and a connecting web which has a keyhole slot whereby the neck portion 29 of the stud snap engages within the part circular portion 23. The retainer has lateral, transverse strengthening ribs 19, 20 and apertures 60 for engaging projections on the panel surface to locate the retainer during bonding by adhesive. A peripheral rib depending from the surface 12 contains the adhesive beneath the retainer. Alternatively the retainer may be heat welded to a panel of similar plastics and the surface 12 is provided with integral corner projections which are fused to the panel by the heat.
