Abstract

1375143 Pressure welding; soldering WALTER CARTOSSI SpA 26 Feb 1973 [22 April 1972 4 Aug 1972] 9345/73 Heading B3R A stainless steel support member, e.g. a container A, is joined to a plate B of a material of higher thermal conductivity, e.g. copper or aluminium, by first temporarily fixing the plate to the support member, e.g. by soldering in one or more discrete places K, in a manner which allows individual thermal expansion of the member and the plate, heating the assembly to a temperature in the region of but below the melting temperature of the material of the plate and applying impact pressure over the whole area of contact between the member and the plate. A foil having the same heat transmitting properties may be first inserted between the member and the plate and the whole assembly temporarily connected by soldering. An additional plate C of stainless steel may also be included in the assembly.
