Abstract

1374538 Reciprocating pumps and motors ANDERSON GREENWOOD & CO 2 March 1972 [8 April 1971] 9862/72 Heading F1A A pump piston 46 is reciprocated by a fluid motor piston 44, the pump piston stroke being adjusted independently of the motor piston stroke by axial adjustment of a threaded sleeve 52 on a piston rod 50 to provide lost motion between the pistons. Piston 44 is slidable on rod 50 and engages an abutment 54 to effect the discharge stroke, and engages sleeve 52, via spring-loaded bush 56, to effect the suction stroke. A cap 26 is removed for access to sleeve 52 and locknut 62. The pump cylinder has inlet and outlet check valves and a drain valve, Fig. 1 (not shown) the piston being sealed by a packing 68 with a drain 74. The motor distributor valve 28, Fig. 5 comprises a slide member 102 controlling flow through ports 130, 132, 134 leading to the opposite ends of the motor cylinder and an exhaust connection, valve chamber 98 being connected to a power fluid inlet 40. Valve member 102 is controlled by a piston 94 in a cylinder 92 connected at its ends to respective pilot valves 76, 78 operated at the end of each stroke by the motor piston 44 to vent the respective end of cylinder 92, and to cause piston 94 to reverse valve member 102. The pressure on either side of piston 94 then slowly builds up due to flow from supply port 40 via port 116, chamber 108 and restrictions 118, 120. The pressure in chamber 108 and spring 110 bias valve member 102 on to valve plate 88. The motor piston speed in either or both directions can be controlled by a throttle or throttle and check valve assembly in a line between one end of the motor cylinder and the distributor valve. Connection 114 to valve cylinder 92 leads to a start valve which is operated to vent one side of the valve cylinder to start the motor.
