Abstract

1374084 Centrifugal separator H H ROBERTSON CO 10 Aug 1972 [10 Aug 1971] 37473/71 Heading B2P A separator for removing solid and/or liquid particles from gases comprises a casing 10 having an inlet 11 and an outlet 12, one or more vaned devices 16, 17 within the casing having fixed vanes for imparting swirl to a particle-laden gas stream as it passes through the casing so that heavier particles are separated out by centrifugal force towards the casing wall, one or more freely rotatable impellers 18, 19 within the casing to increase the radial velocity component acting on each particle, and means 13 for receiving the particles removed from the stream. The twist of the vanes of device 16 is opposite to that of the vanes of device 17 and the impellers are arranged to rotate in opposite directions. The receiving means 13 consist of a sump having a drain 14 and an inspection cleaning hatch 15. A frusto-conical baffle 20 is mounted adjacent the outlet 12 to allow expansion of the gas flow and to provide a wetted surface for further particle collection.
