Abstract
1373898 Turbines WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 26 March 1973 [7 April 1972] 14336/73 Heading FIT A gas turbine engine nozzle vane structure 34 comprises hollow vanes 19 integral at their ends with shroud segments 20, 22, the outer one 22 of which defines a plenum chamber 38 to which cooling compressed air is directed to enter the blades and which includes forward and rearward end walls 35, 36 provided with slots 54 to prevent cracking due to differential cooling. The slots have circular holes at their inner ends, in which are welded axially-split internally threaded sleeves 60 receiving threaded bolts 62 to seal them against escape of cooling air. The heads of bolts 62 are machined down flush with the outside surfaces at the end walls. The chamber 38 is closed by a cover (40), Fig. 1, (not shown), through which passes an air inlet (50) from an inner casing (12), in an undercut groove 24 of which the outer shroud 22 is mounted.
