Abstract
1373093 Electric immersion heaters L P BUTLER Ltd 6 Oct 1971 [14 July 1970] 34045/70 Heading H5H [Also in Division H1] An integral thermostatically controlled fish tank heater (Fig. 1) has an earthed coil 26 mounted adjacent the nickel chrome heating element 22 on a ceramic former 24 in a sealed glass tube 1 so that water entering, e.g., a broken tube will cause current to flow to the earth from the element and cause a fuse 29 in the supply cable 7 to blow. The bi-metallic thermostat 15 and a neon indicator lamp 20 with limiting resistor 21 are mounted in the sealed tube 1; a manual thermostat setting being obtained using screw 27. A rubber plug 4 having a resilient skirt portion 5 seals the tube 1. The element which may be coiled may alternatively be threaded through axial bores in a plane former, the earth element being an aluminium tube which surrounds the former.
