Abstract
1372722 Feeding rods from a hopper BRITISH OXYGEN CO Ltd 20 Jan 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 3741/71 Heading B8S Rods 4, Fig. 2, are fed from a hopper one at a time to a pair of bevelled wheels 12 which withdraw them singly and feed them to one or more pairs of cylindrical feed rollers. The wheels 12 are driven at a speed relative to the feed rollers such that successive rods catch up the preceding rods to form a continuous line. This is effected by the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, in which two pairs of extractor rolls 12 supply rods to two pairs of feed rollers 18. The rollers are mounted on gear-boxes 20, 22 driven by motors 24, 30. Tachogenerators 26, 32 feed signals which are proportional to the speed of rotation of the drive shafts to a master control 34. The latter supplies signals to controllers 36, 38 which control the speed of motors 24, 30. Controls 40, 42, 44 enable the variables in the system to be adjusted.
