Abstract
1372753 Photo-electric laser beam control HONEYWELL Inc 11 Jan 1972 [11 Jan 1971] 1317/72 Heading G1A In a method or apparatus for processing a workpiece with a laser beam the radiation from a region of the workpiece heated by the beam is measured and used to control the power of the beam. The detector may itself be discriminative against the laser beam frequency and responsive to a portion of the spectrum corresponding to the peaks radiation at the desired temperature or the path may include a filter of, for example, sapphire or germanium. The laser source may control its output or a shutter of for example graphite may be included in the beam path. Workpiece positioning means are included and the temperature may be programme controlled. A carbon dioxide laser operating at 10.6 microns, a neodymium doped yttrium aluminium garnet and a mercury-cadmium telluride detector are exemplified.
