Nails; wood-screms.-The head of a nail, brad, or screw is formed with a recess to contain a radium compound or other luminous material so as to indicate the positions of shelves, walls, switches, key-holes, &c. The material may be enclosed in glass and inserted in a recess in the rail etc.; or, as shown in Fig. 4, the material b may be placed in the recess a and left uncovered or covered by glass c either flat or of lens form. In order to prevent damage to the material in inserting the screw &c., marginal notches d may be provided to receive the claws e, Fig. 6, of a driver; in the case of a nail, a punch is employed having a shouldered recess g, Fig. 8, to receive the nail head.
