Abstract
1371479 Coaxial cable STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 22 March 1973 13798/73 Heading H1A A coaxial cable has an outer conductor 3 formed by an aluminium tape applied longitudinally with its edges overlapping, and a wire 4 of seven copper strands which maintains continuity if the conductor 3 is cracked and which also acts as a ripcord when the cable is terminated. The core 1 is of copper. The dielectric 2 may be of solid or cellular polyethylene or of "cartwheel" cross-section. The sheath 5 may be of polyethylene or PVC. In manufacture polyethylene with an azodicarbonimide or other blowing agent may be extruded on to the wire 3, the tape and the wire 4 applied, and then the sheath 5 extruded. The conductor 3 may alternatively comprise an aluminium/plastics laminate with the plastics layer adjacent the dielectric 2 and bonded thereto by the heat of extrusion of the sheath 5.
