Abstract
1371237 Folding ladder A H SAMWAYS [trading as A SAMWAYS & SONS] 27 April 1972 [9 June 1971] 19796/71 Heading E1S A ladder collapsible in its own plane, having rungs 3 pivoted to stiles 2 by pins 4 perpendicular to the plane of the ladder, is secured in its unfolded position of use by a strut 6 which is pivotally connected at its ends to a rung and a stile and has one end slidable longitudinally of the rung or stile (as shown) to permit collapse of the ladder, the strut being locked in the unfolded position by a further strut 7 pivoted e.g. on the pin 4 and engaging the strut 6 with its free end. The strut 7 may engage a channel lug 11 on the strut 6, or may have a bifurcated end to engage a notch in the strut 6. The pivot pin 8 or 9 of the strut 6 slides in a slot 10 in the rung or stile. Such strut arrangements may be provided on both sides of the ladder.
