Abstract

1371216 Valves CAMCO Inc 5 Nov 1971 [1 June 1971] 51500/71 Heading F2V [Also in Division E1] In a safety valve installation, a valve 10 in a well conduit 42 is held open by a control pressure applied to a chamber 32 and is permitted to close on reduction of the control pressure. Control pressure applied at the surface to the easing annulus 46 passes through a pocket 48 to the exterior of the valve between seals 36, 38 and through apertures 34 to the chamber 32. On reduction of the control pressure, the pressure in a pressurized chamber 24 and that of a spring 28 moves a piston 26 on a tube 20 to free a spring- urged flap 16 to close the valve. Seals 60, 62, 64, 68 of the pressure chamber 24 are subjected to control pressure which is higher than the pressure in the conduit so that failure of one of these seals will not cause the flap to open. The seals of the pressure chamber are isolated from the pressure in the conduit by seals 72, 74. In a modification a line extending from the surface supplies the control pressure to the exterior of the valve between the seals 36, 38.
