Abstract
1371113 Waste water treatment ELKEMSPIGERVERKET AS 26 Oct 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 49487/72 Heading C1C [Also in Division B1] A method for the collection and recovery of suspended, precipitated and/or dissolved material in waste water which has been used to wash the gases discharged from a metallurgical smelting furnace comprises passing the waste water through one or more filters comprising carbonaceous material, e.g. coal or coke, whereby suspended as well as precipitated and dissolved material is collected on the filters by adsorption and absorption. After use, the filters may be added to the charge in a metallurgical reduction process. Prior to filtration, the waste water may have its pH adjusted to cause the precipitation of dissolved substances. Air may be injected into the filters to cause oxidation of filtered material. An example describes the treatment of a waste water obtained by washing gases produced in a ferromanganese production furnace.
