Abstract

1370423 Sonar apparatus SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 Sept 1971 [30 June 1970] 31771/70 Heading H4D A sonar apparatus includes an array of transducer means positioned in front of a reflector such that each transducer means is responsive to energy received via the reflector from a different direction and wherein there are a number of receiver channels coupled to the transducer means which subtend varying angles at the centre of curvature of the reflector. In a hydrographic sonar apparatus incorporating varying "focusing" as described in Specification 1,370,422, the receiver channels are coupled to groups of three adjacent transducers for near vertical angles, groups of two for mid-range angles and single transducers for large angles. Alternatively the groups of transducers may be combined into larger single transducers. Specifications 1,370,424, 1,234,237, 1,156,322, 1,147,192, 1,147,191 are also referred to.
