Abstract
1370244 Pipe laying TAKATA KOJYO CO Ltd 2 Oct 1972 45267/72 Heading F2P Pipe laying apparatus comprises a vehicle 1 carrying a store 3 of hardenable lay flat conduit which, as the vehicle moves forward, is fed by rollers 4, 5 to means 5, 7, 8, 8<SP>1</SP> which expand the flat conduit into circular form, through means 9 for hardening the conduit in its expanded form and out over guide means 15 at the trailing end of the vehicle into a trench. The conduit material may be a synthetic polymeric resin which is heat hardenable in which case the means 9 consists of sprayers 9<SP>1</SP> which spray heated medium on to the expanded conduit. Such medium is collected and recirculated by pump 11 through a container 12 having means for maintaining the temperature of the medium. Alternatively the material can be one hardenable by quantitative or qualitative change of the contained plasticizer and the hardening effected by oil treatment. The expanding means may be held in position within the tube by magnetic means or by an external toroidal device positioned behind the sphere 8. The vehicle includes driving means and may alternatively consist of a plurality of separate carriages linked together and it may be preceded by trench digging apparatus. Means may also be provided for testing the hardness of the conduit as it leaves the guide 15 and such means can be associated with a suitable feedback network for controlling the speed of the vehicle, the ternperature or flow of the medium or the feed of the conduit to maintain the necessary hardness of the conduit.
