Abstract

1369440 Furniture frame and joints; tables; chairs VONO Ltd 11 Oct 1971 [21 Nov 1970] 55448/70 Headings A4H and A4J [Also in Division F2] A leg assembly for a furniture article comprises a plurality of basic units 30, 31, Figs. 5A, 5B, each unit comprising a leg 12 and a side rail 11 permanently connected at one end to the leg 12 so as to be at right angles thereto, the other end of the side rail 11 being detachably connected to the adjacent unit at the connection of the leg and side rail thereof so that all the units are angularly related. The leg 12 and side rail 11 may comprise square section tubing lengths welded together. At the connection (10, Fig. 1 (not shown) between the leg 12 and side rail 11 there are opposed apertures 13, Fig. 2, for the fitting of a tube 17, and a screw 20 is passed through tube 17 and threaded into a threaded passage 16 in a plug 15 fitted in the end of the side rail 11 of the adjacent unit. The leg assembly may have pegs 36, Figs. 5A, 5B, which engage in apertures 37 in seat frame members 34a, 34b or table top members 34'a, 34'b, 41, the pegs 36 having an outer end covered with a rubber or plastics ferrule and having an inner end threaded into either a threaded passage 22, Fig. 2, in the plug 15 or a nut (25), Fig. 4 (not shown) fixed inside the rail 11. The pegs 36 may alternatively support a glass or wood table top. The leg assembly may be polygonal in plan view. The basic unit may be made from a single length of material notched and bent to provide two perpendicular parts.
