Abstract
1369227 Electric cut-outs BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENG CO Ltd 27 Sept 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 46374/71 Heading H2G A fuse element comprises a strip of metal 10, of, e.g., silver, which receives, by means of a rolling process, an inlay of a different metal 11, e.g. tin, which is chosen such that when, under overload current conditions, the temperature of the element rises to a particular level, the alloy, formed at the intimate contact surfaces of the strip and inlay, has a lower melting point than either of the two metals (i.e. is eutectic). The alloy causes the fuse to melt at point 14. Under short-circuit current conditions, the sharp rise in temperature causes the fuse to blow at constricted points 13.
