Abstract

136,908. Kraber, G. L. Dec. 23, 1918. Planing; cutters.-A portable wood-planer comprises a body a supporting a motor or turbine f having a vertical shaft on which the cutter e is secured, and a sole-plate d connected to the body by pivoted arms c arranged so as to cause a slight divergence between the sole-plate and the body, thereby slightly tilting the cutter shaft to cause the oppositely-disposed blades e' to cut and rest alternately and so remain comparatively cool. The degree of divergence is adjustable by a lever k. The cutters shown are shaped to make a concave cut, adapted for the meeting edges of ships' timbers to hold the caulking-material.
