Abstract
1368661 Purifying IC engine exhaust gases SUD-CHEMIE AG 10 Aug 1972 [1 Sept 1971] 37409/72 Heading F1B [Also in Division B1] I.C. engine exhaust gases are treated in a twostage reactor system both stages using a catalyst composition comprising elemental platinum and nickel and/or cobalt on a carrier, the composition having an alkali metal and sulphur content each less than 0À05 wt. per cent and having been prepared by depositing the platinum on to the carrier before depositing the nickel and/or cobalt. In the first stage, treatment is carried out in a reducing atmosphere without the addition of air to remove nitrogen oxides. In the second stage, air is added to remove carbon monoxide.
