Abstract

1368393 Removing scale from polymerization equipment SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 29 June 1972 30494/72 Heading C7E [Also in Divisions B1 and F2] Scale is removed from equipment used in the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers by mechanically stripping whilst or after contacting with an alkaline solution, e.g. hydroxides of Na, K, Ca or NH 2 , or sodium carbonate. A plastics or metal tool or water jet or a jet of the alkaline solution itself may be used to mechanically strip the scale. Examples using stainless steel and glass lined chambers are described.
