Abstract
1368187 Helicopter TEXTRON Inc 31 Aug 1972 [18 Oct 1971 4 Feb 1972] 40422/72 Heading B7W A helicopter comprises a main body structure 10 subject to vibrations induced by main rotor 14, and a load carrying structure, such as a cabin 50, secured to the structure 10 only at nodal points 40, 41 thereon so that it is isolated from vibrations. The nodes are chosen for a frequency which is the product of the number of rotor blades and an optimum rotor speed such as 300 r.p.m. The main body structure includes most of the fixed weight of the helicopter, such as engines 11, transmission 12, rotor pylon 13 and controls therefor, the cabin 50 housing cargo and passengers. The cabin may be attached to a beam 23 at nodal points 40, 41, Fig. 1, or to nodal points on weighted cantilevered beams (106- 109) mounted to a frame member (104); or a frame member 304, Fig. 8, may have cantilever beams 311-314 to which, in the region of points which are nodes for a dominant rotor-induced frequency, are attached further cantilever beams to which, at points 321-324, which are nodes for a harmonic of the said frequency, loadcarrying structure may be mounted. The connections between the main body structure and the load-carrying structure may be rigid, ball- and-socket or elastomeric.
