Abstract

1367815 Electric hot-plates GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 31 July 1972 [6 Aug 1971] 35679/72 Heading F4W [Also in Division H5] An electric hot plate comprising a flat glassceramic plate 11 supported on a high thermal conductivity heat spreader plate 13 which has a metal sheathed heating element attached to its underside, and a dished reflector pan 17 that peripherally supports the spreader plate 13 and plate 11, is secured in an opening 34 in a cooker hob 36 by a trim ring 30 of generally T-shaped cross-section whose cross-bar 31 overlies the periphery of the glass-ceramic plate 11 and the boundary of opening 34 and whose shank 33 has edges 50 on its inner surface which support the dished reflector 17, and a spring bracket member 55, 62 which is attached to the shank 33 of the trim ring 30 and is adapted to bear against the hob 36 and bias the trim ring downwardly to clamp the hot plate in the opening 34 in the hob 36. The spring bracket comprises a generally channel-shaped bracket 62 with a deformed oval spring acting between its side walls. A pair of legs 71, 72 engage in apertures 73, 74 in the trim ring to secure the spring bracket to the ring. The assembly of spring brackets, trim ring 30, glass ceramic plate 11, spreader plate 13, and dished reflector 17, is inserted into the opening 34 in hob 36 so that the spring brackets 55, 62 enter into notches 76 formed in a flange 38 of the hob. On rotation of the assembly the springs 55 engage beneath the flange 38 to bias the assembly into the opening 34 and retain it therein. The heat spreader plate 13 preferably is made of stainless steel or aluminium sheet or a composite sheet of copper encased in stainless steel. Between the support ledges 50 of the trim ring 30 and the outer flange 22 of the dished reflector 17 a sinuous annular coil spring 51 is interposed.
