Abstract
1367588 Cutting by fusion NIPPON KOKAN KK 28 Dec 1972 [8 Feb 1972] 59945/72 Heading B3V An apparatus for trimming a plate 1 to produce parallel side edges X, Y comprises two longitudinal rails 15, 35 disposed on opposite sides of a conveyer (5, 6) (Fig. 2, not shown), for transporting the plate 1 to a stop position, the rails 15, 35 being relatively movable apart and being angularly adjustable relative to the longitudinal centre line of the apparatus; cutting devices 14, 34 respectively movable long the rails 15, 35; a detector 25, 26 including a differential transformer 27, 28 for detecting the angular position of each rail 15, 35; a detector 22 including differential transformers 23, 24 for detecting the angular deviation of a stopped plate 1 and means for angularly adjusting the rails 15, 35 in accordance with signals provided by the detectors 22, 25, 26. Cutting torches (54) (Fig. 5, not shown) are connected to a carriage (58) which is mounted by rollers (61-64) for movement along each rail 15, 35 by a motor (57) via a rack (59) and pinion (60) drive. Each end of the rail 15 is mounted on a table 11, 13 movable by a motor 16, 17 along a rail 8, 10 for pivoting the rail 15 about its centre 18. The rail 15 may be moved laterally by the motors 16, 17 to accommodate plates of different widths. The other rail 35 is mounted at each end to a table 31, 33 movable, so as to pivot the rail 35 about its centre 32, by a motor 36, 37 along a transverse rail 38, 39 rotatably mounted in a frame (46) (Fig.4, not shown). If differences in potential occur between the outputs of the differential transformers 23, 24 of the plate detector 22 and differential transformers 27, 28 positioned adjacent the rails 15, 35 denoting misalignment of the plate 1 relative to the centre line of the roller conveyer, the motors 16, 36 or 17, 37 are operated to pivot the rails 15, 35 until the potential differences are reduced to zero whereupon the rails 15, 35 are positioned perpendicular to the seams 19, 20, 21 of the plate 1.
