Abstract
1367285 Inertia weight vibration dampers; piston rings GIRLING Ltd 26 Aug 1971 [28 Aug 1970] 41568/70 Headings F2S and F2T A damper for attachment to the axle of a vehicle road wheel (not shown) comprises a closed casing 11 containing air or other compressible fluid, an inertia mass 10 fitting slidably within the easing and having a passage 14 to allow fluid flow from one end of the casing to the other, and two springs 12, 13 of different strengths opposing movement of the inertia mass towards the ends of the casing. The spring 12 is stiffer than the spring 13 and occasionally loses contact with the mass 10. Both springs are under pre-load when the inertia mass is at rest. The mass 10 has piston rings 16 of a resilient plastics material with spring fingers 19 which centre the mass.
