Abstract
1366987 Electric incandescent lamps GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 2 Feb 1973 [15 Feb 1972] 6934/72 Heading H1F A filament mount structure comprises one or more filaments 6 each having a plurality of sections and each being supported within a respective framework 5 consisting of one or more pairs of parallel support wires 7, 8 interconnected at opposite ends by respective insulating bridges 9, 10 carrying anchor wires 12 which support different sections of the filament, each bridge having embedded therein at least one pair of tubular metal members 17 through which a pair of support wires extend and the tubular members of at least one of the bridges being rigidly secured, e.g. by welding, to the support wires. The tubular members are preferably tungsten wire coils and each bridge consists of two quartz glass rods press-sealed together in side-by-side relationship with the tubular members and the anchor wires in between. When first assembled the tubular members are a sliding fit on the support wires so that the filament can be accurately positioned relative to the outer extremities of the base pins 4 before the members and the wires are secured together. In a modification the lower bridge 10 may be provided with additional tubular members in which the anchor wires 12 can slide to compensate for expansion of the filament in use.
