Abstract

1366096 Catalytic fluidized bed UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 10 Sept 1971 42306/71 Heading B1F [Also in Division C5] Two streams of hydrocarbon are cracked simultaneously in an apparatus which comprises a vertically disposed dense-bed cracking vessel (2) containing a fluidized bed (10) of catalyst particles, and inlet (3) to the lower part of the vessel for the first stream, a particle-separator (7) in the upper part of the vessel, with an inlet (8) communicating with the interior of the vessel, means for returning separated catalyst to the fluidized bed, and an outlet (5) for the separated cracked hydrocarbon, a riser (12) with an inlet (not shown) for the second hydrocarbon stream and catalyst particles, and an outlet connected with the vessel (2) at a point above the separator (7), a second separator (6) connected with the outlet of the riser, means for discharging separated catalyst to the fluidized bed and an outlet (9) for cracked gases to the interior of the vessel (2), and an outlet (4) for deactivated catalyst from the apparatus. The cracked hydrocarbons from the separator 6 pass to the inlet of separator 7 without undergoing significant further cracking. The two streams are thus subjected to cracking of different intensities, and the cracked products from both recovered together. Each of separators 6 and 7 may be (as shown) a single cyclone or two cyclones in parallel or in series.
