Abstract
1364938 Laundry presses IBIS ENGS Ltd 30 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 19813/72 Heading D1A In a laundry press with a stationary back 1 and a pressing head 2 mounted on an arm 3 supported by a parallelogram linkage (links 9, 12, 7 and the frame 4) a first air-operated ram 21 moves the head forwardly over the buck 1 and a second air-operated ram 5 imparts a final substantially vertically downward motion to the head. The press also includes a tension spring 15 and compression springs 14 opposing extension of the respective rams 21 and 5, a snubbing cylinder 25 in parallel to the ram 21 (and having tamping orifices of decreasing size approaching its ends) and a trip guard 23. In operation the ram 21 first pivots the arm 3 forwardly about a spindle 6 until a cam 16 on the arm actuates a microswitch 17 when higher pressure air contracts the ram 5 to lower the arm 3 on the parallelogram linkage and the head 2 onto the buck and finally an adjustable member 18 on the arm 3 engages a roller 19 to open a steam valve to supply the buck. The trip guard 23 operates a valve 23a to raise the head, means being provided to prevent the head being lowered again until it has moved backwards enough to reconnect the cylinder 21 to the low pressure air supply.
