Abstract
1364960 Cooling of workpieces BALZERS PATENT-UND BETEILIGUNGS-A G 12 Oct 1972 [27 Oct 1971] 47012/72 Headings C7F and C7N] In a vacuum apparatus, a device is provided for cooling the workpiece. The workpiece, e.g. a cylinder 11 undergoing vapour deposition, is arranged on a rotatable drum 5 inside a vacuum chamber 1, the wall 10 of the drum being of elastomeric material. The cooling medium is introduced through the shaft 8 of the drum, the pressure of the coolant in the drum 5 pushing the wall 10 outwards to firmly engage the workpiece 11. For use with small workpieces, e.g. lenses, the lenses 12 are held by a cylindrical cage 11'. The device can also be used in a sputtering apparatus, or in heat-treatment under vacuum.
