Abstract

1364394 Container ends; container closures KONINKLIJKE EMBALLAGE INDUSTRIE VAN LEER BV 9 Jan 1973 [11 Jan 1972] 1088/73 Headings B8D and B8T A plastics lid 3 having an inverted channelshaped edge is secured to a plastics container 1 by radial container projections 2, which extend through corresponding openings in the outer leg 4 of the channel-shaped lid edge and have enlarged lid-retaining head portions 5. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the enlarged head portions are formed by flanges which are chamfered at 8 to facilitate snap-fastening of the projections through the lid-openings. A liquid tight seal is achieved by a member 9. In a modified embodiment, Figs. 9 and 11, the headed portions 19 of the projections 12 are formed by heating the projections after the latter have been passed through the lid openings. A tear-thread 20 is embedded in the lid material and has end portions extending downwardly between two projections and beyond the lid edge whereby the lid may be cut through above the level of the projections with the exception of that portion between the projections. Alternatively, the head portions may be cut-off using a hot knife to release the lid.
