Abstract
1364029 Electrostatic precipitators NIPPON KOGEI KOGYO CO Ltd 11 Oct 1972 [14 Jan 1972 8 Feb 1972] 46914/72 Heading B2J An electrostatic precipitator comprises an earthed housing 12 acting as a collecting electrode; discharge electrodes in the form of wires 3 tensioned by a motor and pulley arrangement 8, 9; and an earthed perforated electrode 2 positioned upstream of the wires 3 so that a weak electrostatic field is established between it and the wires. The arrangement is such that fine particles in an exhaust gas, e.g. from a rotary kiln, electric furnace or the like, are aggregated during their movement through the electrode 2 and to the electrodes 3 to form coarse particles which are deposited on the housing 12 from which they can be removed by rapping, &c. The electrode 2 may be placed across a restricted portion of the duct through which the gas flows (Fig. 2, not shown), and may be in the form of a wire cloth, an array of bars, a shutter arrangement, a box-shaped lattice, a perforated plate, or a triple-thickness array of wire cloth (Figs. 4 to 12, not shown). A humidifier may be provided upstream of the electrode 2 (Fig. 3, not shown). The collecting electrodes may be in the form of a wire net spaced from the wall of the housing 12, and the dust from the electrodes may be deposited on to a coveyor or in to a removable tray, (Figs. 13 and 14, not shown). An embodiment having a gas passage divided by partitions associated with collecting electrodes is described with reference to Fig. 15 (not shown).
