Abstract

1363772 Direct-positive photographic emulsions EASTMAN KODAK CO 29 Oct 1971 [30 Oct 1970] 50341/71 Heading G2C Direct-positive photographic silver halide emulsion of the internal latent image type contains as fogging agent a compound comprising a heterocyclic nucleus containing a 5- or 6- membered heterocyclic ring including a quaternary N atom carrying a group of formula:- CH 2 CH 2 COR (which R is H, aryl as defined or optionally substituted alkyl), the ring also carrying an optionally substituted lower alkyl group attached to a nuclear carbon atom adjacent to the quaternary N atom. Preferred fogging agents are of formula: (wherein Z completes a 5- or 6- membered heterocyclic ring, the additional atoms being selected from C, N, O, S and Se; R is H or optionally substituted 1-4C alkyl or aryl; either n is 1 and R 1 is H, aryloxy, aryl or optionally substituted alkyl, or n is 2 and R 1 is ethylene; X is anion).
