Abstract

1363412 Forming holes in cast concrete MCBS Ltd 11 Oct 1971 [14 July 1970] 34151/ 70 Heading E1S [Also in Division B5] A cavity is formed in a concrete article by a core comprising a rigid pin 15 surrounded by a flexible sheath 14. As described, a PVC sheath 14 is inserted through opposing holes 12, 13 in the walls 10, 11 of a sprung mould or shuttering. The holes 12, 13 are of smaller diameter than the sheath 14. A bright steel pin 15 is slid into the sheath 14, and after concrete casting is withdrawn by a handle 16. A blind cavity can be formed by strapping the handle 16 in position. The mould can be horizontal or vertical, and the concrete article formed in situ; bolt holes are formed by the core in concrete building columns, tunnel linings and facing panels.
